He was born on 23 /2/1908. McMahon was educated at Abbotsholme Sydney Grammar School. His mother died when he was three and he was looked after by his uncle, Sir Samuel Walder.

McMahon was in the Liberal party and was Prime Minister from 1971-1972.

William McMahon died in 1988.
